Goodbye Razor...Hello Laser!

After Care Guide
Post Treatment Instructions

  • Immediately after the treatments, expect redness and bumps at the treatment area. This may last up to 2 hours or longer. It is normal for the treated area to feel like sunburn for a few hours. You can use a cold compress if needed. If there is any crusting, peeling, or scabbing, apply antibiotic cream. Some specialists recommend aloe vera gel or other after post-sunburn treatments such as Solarcain, Vaseline, Neosporin, Mederma and/or Desitin. Darker pigmented individuals may have more discomfort than lighter skinned clients and may require the aloe vera gel or an antibiotic ointment longer.
  • Makeup may be used after the treatment, unless there is epidermal blistering. It is recommended to use new makeup in order to reduce the possiblity of infection. Just make sure that you have moisturizer on under your makeup. In fact, moisturizer will help the dead hair exfoliate from the follicle, so use moisturizer frequently and freely on the treated area. Any moisturizer without alpha-hydroxy acids will work.
  • It is also recommended that clients avoid sun exposure in order to reduce the chance of dark or light spots. Use SPF 25 or higher at all times throughout the treatment and for at least one to two months following the treatment. Sun block is recommended over sunscreen lotions. If a must, tanning from a bottle during the duration of the treatment process is highly recommended over sun exposure.
  • Avoid picking or scratching the treated skin. DO NOT USE any other hair removal methods or products on the treated area during the course of your laser treatments, as it will prevent you from achieving the best possible results.
  • You may shower after the laser treatments, as well as use soap, deodorant, etc. The treated area may be washed genlty with a mild soap. Skin should be patted dry, not rubbed. Do not use products that contain exfoliation, microbead, MicroDermabrasion, or the like, on the treated area. Also, underarm areas that have been treated should be wiped with alchol for 24 hours. You may then apply deodorant after 24 hours. Baking soda is a good alternative to deodorant.
  • Anywhere from 5-30 days after the treatment, shedding of the hair may occur and this may appear as new hair growth. This is not new hair growth, but dead hair pushing its way out of the follicle. You can help the hair exfoliate by VERY gently polishing and wiping with a wash cloth.
  • Hair re-growth occurs at different rates on different areas of the body. New hair growth will not occur for at least three weeks after treatment.
  • Feel free to call or e-mail your specialist with any questions or concerns you may have after the treatment. At Selais MedSpaTM, we are here to make your laser hair removal experience a pleasant one.
* Please note: Stubbles, representing dead hair being shed from the hair follicle, will appear within 10-20 days from the treatment date. This is normal and will fall out quickly.

The picture you see here is of a man's back that is skin type II. It is a good picture of the immediate redness that may appear on the treated area after treatment has occurred. In this scenario the redness/blistering cleared up in about 20 minutes.
This is the same back, shown at a different angle, in order to allow you to see the redness that may occur.
