The process of laser hair removal works by directing the laser onto the skin, where the laser high-energy light becomes absorbed by melanin located in the hair follicles. Once absorbed, the light transforms into heat, destroying the entire part of the follicle responsible for the growth of new hair. Due to the fact that a laser targets melanin, the more melanin an individual has in his/her hair, the more effective a laser will be. Therefore, someone with gray, red or blonde hair my not experience as good as a result as a person with darker hair. Also the laser does not distinguish between melanin in hair and melanin in skin, the more melanin present in the skin, the more the laser is going to target the skin rather than the hair. Due to this someone with very dark skin may not experience as good as a result as someone with lighter skin. It is important to note that laser hair removal is a non-invasive method of hair removal, which does not require the use of needles or chemical creams. Laser hair removal is a safe technique for the removal of unwanted hair and it offers many advantages. It is considered to be painless as compared to other methods. Also, it is a very convenient method for removing hair from body parts with a lot of surface area, especially the back or legs. For example, when removing hair from the back with laser treatments, it usually takes about an hour. In contrast, a full back hair removal with electrolysis can take up to and over 125 hours. Finally, many consumers have experienced long-lasting hair removal or even permanent hair reduction. Laser hair removal is an excellent treatment option, but, as we mentioned, some clients do experience hair re-growth, although it is much finer, and lighter in color.
The length of a session may range from a few minutes to an hour or more depending on the surface area of the body involved. A relatively smaller area, such as the upper lip, may take several minutes, where as a larger area, such as the back, may require an hour or more. Since laser tends to treat hair follicles that are in the active growth phase, more than one treatment will be required to disable hair follicles that subsequently enter this growth phase. At Selais MedSpaTM we commonly do eight to twelve treatments to ensure that all of your hair has been targeted in a given area, however, in certain cases, fewer or more treatments may be needed. Before the procedure starts, you will put on goggles that you will be required to wear for safety precautions throughout the treatment. The goggles help to protect your eyes from accidental exposure to laser light. During the procedure, laser light will be delivered through a hand held piece attached to a laser console. To remove any discomfort that you might have, the cooling system automatically removes heat from the surface of your skin before, during, and after the laser exposure. For more sensitive areas, Selais MedSpaTM has state of the art topical cream that will be applied to the sensitive part of the body to ensure a painless experience. The appearance of the treated area immediately following the laser session will vary from client to client, depending on the extent of the treatment and skin type. Immediate after-effects, if any, are minor. This may include redness and swelling, which disappear a short period after treatment. After the procedure, clients are able to return to their normal activity right away, feeling fresh, clean and relieved.
